A bit of excitement today

I was round at the bike shop for a bit of a natter when we noticed a crowd on the corner looking up the road. We went down for a bit of a nosey and there was a Reliant Rialto on the High Street going up in flames. Police stopped the traffic in both directions and it was a proper inferno with tyres exploding then the fuel tank must have built up pressure and blown the cap off and it went up like a Roman Candle. The driver and his missus, an old couple, both got out alright and the fire engine arrived as it was almost going out and blocked our view so we wandered off. I reckon the recovery will only need a sweeping brush and shovel when they come for what's left of it.

the problem with those is the fuel pipe to the carb they are not great and when you are sat in one the carb is quite far into the cabin, my mate had one, his also went up with him and his 18month old son strapped in a car seat in it, he was really shaken up and as you will have noticed they go up very quickly

it is worse with a resin rocket, most engine fires will give you plenty of smoke and you can just get out with the above the fire almost immediately breaks through into the cabin next to your legs

Oh yes (Churchill stylee) it was flat to the ground in 15 minutes. The black cloud was impressive and the heat was severe, we were about 40 feet away and could feel it on our faces. Got it off my phone now.

The reason I asked is the cuts are going under the radar........it used to be 1st appliance in under 5 mins. Just imagine if that were your grandkids on a house fire. Survivable time was well.past by then

Leicestershire had a fire the other day and it was 10 pumps and 2 alps which is all they will have left after the next round of cuts....it's becoming past a joke now...

Yes because they send the appliance that can get there the quickest. You can't save one in case it's persons reported how do you know where the next fire is going to happen.

But because people only care about the fire service when they need one.........no one is fighting against it.

The flooding is a classic example 20 of the HVP (high volume pumping units are being taken out of service next year ) how sensible is that. ..

the fire stations here have shrunk as have the amount of appliances we even have a stupid pickup type of appliance to deal with small fires and so on but the crew hate it

Exactly....if one of those small appliances is passing a house fire on the way back to station it can't effect a rescue in a safe manner using BA procedures........they have to wait for another one to come before they can deploy safely.
