That's really neat, is it going to be metal flake?
Great build langy I love that style, I'm very impressed, but I've always had trouble understanding how the balance of power to weight/ traction to acceleration/looking good/lasting to the end of the day conundrum works in drag racing..
My mantra when building off road competition vehicles was 'nothing built too strong ever broke' I had some success but time was not of the essence for me!
Bernard
Well Bernard in the early 60's the tyre technology wasn't there so the front of the cars were raised to shift weight to the rear tyres on launch, in the later 60's the cars came down lower at the front as we see these days as the tyre technology got better and grip improved, I've built this to emulate the Gasser cars from around the mid 60's that had the front high.
There were cars with the front 9-12" higher than mine
What's up! Weren't the boots big enough for a few bags of cement.
Motor looks very nice: What sort of power is the motor going to produce? How much will it stand you at? And how reliable will it be?
Have you ever done anything with chevy straight 6 motors
The old man used to have a bag of cement* in the back of his Mk1 3lt Capri. Wish I had it now
7k is a kin lot fella. But I guess as advertising media it's tax deductible
As much as I really really want a v8 in the truck. I'd like to keep it stock looking, sounding motor. Traffic light Sleeper I guess you could call it. Not bothered about top speed, esp' something like it is. That's all down the line and as I'm sure you will agree things tend to change
*back in the day when bags were 1cwt, not panzie size you get today.
I love it
I wondered why you had taken the original rivited cruciform out of the chassis?
Untill I saw the trial fit of the engine
Dave 7k is bloody cheap for a 850bhp motor, 350bhp small block Chevy would be 3.5k, the more bhp you want the cost spirals
oh I know it's cheap. It's still 7k though
I wanted to keep the riveted centre but it just wouldn't fit, even though riveted it would have to be also welded, riveted frames are not stiff but move around.
Glad you like it
I used to rivet and weld the cruciform in, at Thompson chassis .
Also have a look at the Metro cab chassis they are made out of box section, very strong and hand welded .
May be useful for future ref:
Isn't the metro IFS like the FX4 ???
Yes it is Steve indy front live rear
At least the IFS is easily detachable
bolt on bit like Austin Cambridge or MGB set up
Steve remember this one 502c v8 cab on full hydraulics
it now live in Austria
