4 pin alternator plug

Just trying to confirm my thoughts on wiring this alternator:

It has a 4 pin plug with terminals labelled PLI and S

My understanding is P is tacho (don’t have one)

L is charge light/exciter

I is ign pos to act as exciter if you don’t have a charge lamp circuit

S is voltage sensing. To my understanding this MUST be jumped to batt pos?

You would really need to look at the wiring diagram for what it fits, or a diagram from the supplier, as there is no guarantee the markings are what the pins actually do now.
I've seen quite a few, where the markings are simply whatever was on the original design of alternator, yet the regulator has been redesigned to do some thing else (usually for later LIN bus alternators, which I've seen still marked as a D+ terminal, but I've seen various other options).

Looking at the suppliers image the terminals are labelled the same bar S which has become D!

I've just had to buy the same plug for my ssangyong the connectors had corroded.

And that's why I said to look at the suppliers/manufacturer's wiring!
It costs too much to alter the back cover mold, so manufacturers change the pin functions and don't bother redesigning the back cover.

I’m going to presume it still stands that I just have to connect the L connector to the lamp circuit and be done with it?

Maybe.
As the regulator is expecting an Ign+ feed, you may find that it won't start charging unless revved without an Ign+.

However, you won't damage anything by trying it with just the warning lamp connected.

So after some digging it appears I need the L terminal to lamp, and the S to battery and that should do it

Some alternators are told what to do via a pwm signal.
