Hi folks,
Have just acquired a new to me 4 jaw from @scottmk1 (thanks again Scott!) have cleaned it up with a wire wheel today, stripped it as much as I could (couldn't get the jaw screw saddles out) and oiled it lightly.
Now, I have a query. How do I mount it as it was originally a D1-6 camlock, obviously I could have got a plain back one, or even paid a lot more for an L2 direct mount, but they're few and far between.
My options are:-
1. Shown in blue on the chuck, drill through 2 of the camlock holes and then 2 new corresponding holes between the other 2 jaws, giving me 4 mounting screws, tap the backplate to suit after turning a register and mount it that way.
2. Shown in yellow. Drill 4 new holes into the chuck through the gaps between jaws, again turn a register and tap the backplate to suit.
Option 1 means everything is touching, where option 2 leaves the bolts going through an inch or so of nothing between the chuck and backplate.
Pics of my 2 backplates below.
Any help much appreciated,
Cheers, Dan
