Guess what - i have more questions haha!

The only static and rotary converters i am finding are either really expensive, or the Clarke one.

Also, when i search 'converter', i get results for 'inverters'.

The main result that comes up time and time again is the Drives Direct

Would anybody be able to give me links to a few options?
What do we think of the digital inverters?

If you're on a budget and need it shortly then the clark ones are fairly good.
Or if you can hold on, a used transwave may come up on ebay.

Transwave are ok to deal with and have good back up.

Don't know where you are based there are a couple on ebay now but they are way down south west.

As I stated earlier I got my inverter from Vibtec, that was nearly twenty years ago, its used on a business basis(four days a week) and never failed so far, I thought expensive at the time, its earned its keep many many times over. arther

The one I have is a Boost Energy Converter but just noticed their website is no longer so assume they have gone which is a shame.

so thankyou Rick, yes the pillar drill can be run on 240 volt single phase

No its still 3 phase just at a lower voltage. 3 phase kit is always 3 phase.

you will need to give the motor the extra phases, via static or rotary comverters.

You will see youtubes using a capacitor to run a small 3 phase motor, but this is in effect making a static converter.

Rotatry converters are motor/generator units that spin hence the name.

Static use capacitors to shift the phases

VFD convert to DC then generate AC using inverters. 240 to 415 inverters are VFDs that step up the voltage before converting it.

@rorie you will need one of those 230 to 415 for the bandsaw and a cheap 220v Chinese ones for the drill if you want to use the original motors

The cheapest option may be to source new single phase motors. you'll need to watch the shaft size and motor mountings match

He could just use one 230-415 one and a plug/socket to plug in either drill or saw (Obviously only able to use one at a time).

As far as i am aware when boost closed they were taken over by transwave.

Out 1st converter was from Boost (based in Kent)

I'm not a big fan of putting more than one motor on a single VFD, but as the motors are the same speed/rating it could work with a change over. Have start stop controls and power switched to each machine via a change over at the drive.

Yes, I know what you mean. I've used vastly different motors on a single inverter before, but that was using different parameter sets for each motor and PLC control for selection- I guess that'd be a bit OTT for a drill and saw though!!

Electrician is coming over on the weekend to look at what is required to run extra 3 phase sockets around the workshop from the converter.

Maybe already said but static converters have a minimum power rating, check it will run your machines. You don't have that issue with rotary converters.

Ah looks like the switches on the front take care of that.

PC20 is 230v to 415v. The equivalent VFD would be very expensive (c£1000, similar to a Transwave rotary) and is only suitable for running one machine at a time.

They use 240v to 400v+ inverters to power whole workshops all at once.
I can do that with mine exactly the same with the Transwave rotary not being used for close on 6 years.

Need to know the power of the motors being used and double or treble that value for inverter. Luckily bandsaws not power hungry at startup.

the static will do most of -what u want no bother. the only thing they don't like is a high starting torque. 4 poster lifts compressors ect
