Ive got a bunch of 3 phase machines, and I run them off a rotary converter at the moment.
Whilst the rotary works really well for what it is, I get annoyed at the extra noise it produces, when working late at night.
The tool I would most like to use without the rotary is the drill press, so looking into vfd options.
The motor is rated at 1/2hp at 380v (although I run it in delta at 240v quite happily).
Any ideas what size vfd I should go for for this? Is the hp hatibg of the vfd's actually related to the amps they put out? If yes, is it correct that I should have something like 1/2hp*1.7?
Also, is there any harm in going bigger? The step up to a 3hp vfd is not that big in money terms, but would it run the drill? This way I could move the vfd to another machine later if required.
