It may be ,,, but as Ive just given my reasons why its not wise ,, will you still do it , or stop and actually think about whats going on while you do it , at say 8000 rpm , two seconds to run dry and stop , say half of that without lube ,,, its only 133 times that little piston runs up and down in a bore ,,, with little or no lube.
Once I thought about it ,, forty years ago , I stopped doing it.
Ive put a fair few pistons in outboards for folk though . just my thoughts , folk are welcome to do what they like of course, and plenty can say they run things dry and have done for years without any bother too. Strokes for folks.
I don't need to do it now I use Aspen2 and it stays in the saw till I need to use it again. When the fuel runs out the saw stops but there's enough oil residue to keep it lubed. I've run out of fuel in use enough times with no ill effects so I'll trust the manufacturers to have allowed for it.
