I'm guessing many people may use one of these
I am super careful about my fuel mix, I always measure with a measuring jug and use Stihl oil which comes with a measuring chamber. I also never let anyone else put their mix in any of my kit.
I was given one of these free with a new chainsaw and I have used one in the past. I needed to do a quick batch of fuel so I thought I'd use it. Filled to the petrol line which I believe should be 1L, I measured enough for 2L on the oil bottle in the theory that this bottle would then show a mix of 25:1 then add another 1L after for a total of 2L at 50:1 . When I poured the 40ml of oil in(50:1 for 2L) the mixture only came up to the 50:1 line. So either one of the vessels was wrong.
I did a sanity check and the fuel mixing bottle holds a bit more than 1L to the line and have no idea what the mix graduations are saying because it's not anywhere near what they are supposed to be.
I did a check this morning with a measuring jug and a syringe so was about as accurate as I could be and it was clear the mix bottle is not the same.It was very clear the mixture from the mixing bottle had more oil in it by the colour.
If you are running some old kit then I'm sure it's fine but in a new £800+ chainsaw I certainly wouldn't trust one.
