Only welding ive done to it is add ARB mounts,
I know we're past buying a defender on this thread, but if it goes back to it... If you find a good one (a properly good one, not one that scrapes through MOTs), set it up exactly how you want and treat it to some rust proofing every now and then, they're brilliant things.

we use a rope to do that when launching the dive rhib . Trailer brakes still turn to toast though , ah the joys of salt water .Pal has a boat, he puts an extension on the trailer hitch. Car never gets its tyres wet
