I have some of the even older 15a round pin plugs from years of yonder somewhere they were a proper plug too!
Some still used in a village hall I do work on for their aging theatre lighting.

Still the standard in India and South Africa

what about my favourite. nicking a neutral pin out of a broken plug and putting it in place of the live so there is no fuse at all...

i've never done that when a welder kept blowing fuses and i had no access to a 16a supply, no siree......

I still use the round pin ones on some of the older dimmer packs (I'm in lighting, TV/video) 15a plugs, some of the really old ones have the 5a version. they do a 2a version for table lamp circuits in old and/or posh houses. The 15a are used in south africa as mains plugs.

You can make them out on my dimmers in this lot.

The brass pins were live with the plug partially removed, so small fingers wrapped around a plug pulling it out could potentially touch the live pins. With the new ones by the time the brass is exposed the pins are dead.

I have these all around my house. We built it in 1989: it's neither old nor posh, just thoughtfully specified.

I can testify to that! Probably 40 years ago now - was in my brother's bedroom and pulling a plug out, while crouched down - must have touched the live pin and ended up (thankfully!) on my back on his bed. Must have caused my leg muscles to suddenly expand.

I remember at Christmas time with lots of strings of fairy lights getting a good whack putting the plug in with extra sets of lights live and neutral wrapped around the pins cos no more would fit in the plug!

I had a clear out of old plugs a week or so ago, threw out loads of the solid brass pin ones.

it did . kiddys little fingers could pull them out and touch the pins half pulled you will find even with reduced pins there still thicker than the cable they supply its the fuse holder that is the weak link and overheats 1st just a press fit in

Going to be contraversial but bigger than 13a plugs do (or did) exist. I have a heavy duty 3pin plug that fits into a standard 3pin socket which was designed for more than 13A. Can't remember if it was 15or 16a.

However, can't imagine any are available now and even if they were, would any sockets even be rated for over 13?

However, it is for the audiophile market, so priced accordingly !

Words fail me.

I've always struggled with other so-called audiophile plugs in the past (some of which are anything but) and I'd always been put off this and another well known brand due to the price...my advice...don't make the same mistake as me! This is a fantastic plug in every respect, beautiful made, nice thick gold plating, sturdy screws, plenty of space for chunky cable and most importantly it sounds awesome too! I wired mine with some Furutech FP-S20 and it fitted in a dream (including the woven shield with the earth cable).
I can't recommend this plug highly enough. Rest assured also, Analogue Seduction are a great company to buy from, they keep you informed about your order progress and delivery was fast too! What more could you want!

This got me thinking about plugs.

At work we get PSU, which come with 500mm of cable fitted with a European style plug.


The plug Top LHS.

Now we always cut this off and fit a standard 3 pin 13a plug.

The PSU are sourced from a UK supplier, for a UK market.

I was curious. So I read the small print.

Turns out, if we remove the plug the warranty is Null and void.

What a cop out.

Oh well back to normal service.

Why is voiding a warranty after the customer substantially alters the product a cop out? Why don't you use an adaptor? Or require the company supplying the leads to supply one?

Because you have change/altered the operation of the device.

To use an adapter would mean a major redesigned of the cabinet the PSU sit in.

But s we only pay £5 for a 8 way 12vdc 2a PSU, it is not worth it.

In same cases, we daisy chain the PSU anyway.

It was something I found amusing, a UK supplier, supply equipment for a UK market. Sell the PSU with a non UK plug.
What removing it, voids a UK warranty.
