115 or 125mm cordless grinder?

They all kill the battery pack quickly. Mine does that too. 20 mins hard use will see a full charged 4ah back on the block.

I always thought the 125mm grinders were a European size as they seemed standard on the continent when I go there. Some of my 115 grinders will fit the 125mm discs, others won't, depends on the guard.

Dedicated 125mm grinders tend to have slightly lower rpm or mine does anyway. Not sure whether it's right but I'd imagine a bigger wheel (even 10 mm) would put more strain on the motor if it's trying to throw it round at speed designed for smaller wheels. 10mm might not sound much but it's over 30mm on the circumference. The wheel might be rated to that speed but is the grinder rated to throw a bigger wheel round at that speed. I dunno I'm just thinking (in my mind logically.)

A quick check on the Makita website shows sone 115mm ones have lower speeds then some 125mm ones, and vice versa. I wouldnt read much into that TBH.

They also appear very much identical, other than guard sizes, though I havent got an identical model of each size to check. I'd suggest the same models in differing sizes (At least the 115/125 ones, as you get into bigger models then obviously they will be different) will use exactly the same internals, there will probably be more difference between the cheaper/expensive models from the same manufacturer.

Just noticed that Metabo do a 150mm x 8000rpm cordless grinder,

I seem to remember from a while ago that Kent had bought a 150mm grinder. But I don't know how may manufacturers make the discs or at what cost.

Site I am on today the H&S banned 125. The reason was not clear. But it seams they think is dangerous.

It's not uncommon. I visit a lot of sites that limit wheels to 4.5 inch.

Probably (possibly) because back when the rule was introduced, the next size up was the 9 incher.
And you don't always want the boys bringing out a big one on site.

7 inch ain't bad .
That's been around a good while and still too big to whip out out on some sites

Sounds a bit worrying that the H&S bods are now heading out with a ruler as well as their clipboard to measure your tools

I bet they can't eyeball the difference anyway

Site work sounds like it can be a complete pain in the backside, with every kind of problem from struggling for a good power supply to being restricted to what tools you are allowed to use, and the voltage.
Sounds like a bloomin' nightmare to me?

It is but it's where the money is at if you get on the right sites doing the right jobs.
