I have this system anyway for sharpening my woodturning tools and I just use the side of the coarser wheel for tungstensharpening - that part of the wheel doesn't get used for sharpening tools anyway.
Obviously I only need to sharpen infrequently as I'm so proficient at TIG welding that I...
Saw this and seems like a decent method?

Blue one?, yes Zirconiated, they are all I use, I have never had any problems sharpeningtungstens with them other than the electrode puts a groove in them, that's not a bad thing, it makes them self aligning on the wheel, I usually keep a worn wheel with me for tungsten prep on site.
I did think about this but I wasnt sure how to approach cutting them in half and introducing contamination/fractures down them... havent dealt with tungsten before so no idea how it reacts to things. Figured I would keep unknown variables to a minimum starting out, but it would be nice to have a...
I did manage to find an old Co2 regulator for a quick try. The thing works, in 4T, which is some relief. I'm new to TIG.... it's so quiet and gentle! I forgot everything I have read so will have to go do that again.
I forgot to adjust the sensitivity of my mask and didn't realise it wasn't...
I need a 12mm shank indexable boring bar for my lathe, I've had a look on Ebay etc but there's so many to choose from I don't no what to get!
I have small one (8mm?) but it's no good as I can't get it to centre height, the tungsten one I have was cutting ok but screeching badly until I tried...
the standard wheel on my smaller bench grinder keeps getting deeply grooved from sharpening my tungsten. I have just acquired a new grinder and wondered what wheel would be best for it seems a waste to keep dressing grove out!
The only one I own that runs smooth enough to not be bolted down is a creusen.
I only ever used it for tungsten grinding. I have never tried sharpening drill bits but I would think it would need fixing down for that as you would just end up pushing it around unless you only grind drill bits at...
If that's all you are using it for then any will be fine.
G-clamps or some bolts/screws to fasten it to the bench.
Maybe buy a dressing tool as well and mark up one side for tungstensharpening only.
Recomend me a Good bench grinder that won't dance of the bench, I've only ever used our sealey 8" in work and it's fine, it will be used for tungstensharpening and drill bit sharpening, please
...takes a while to come up to speed due to the weight of the diamond wheel but it's highly effective and does a nice quick job of tungstensharpening.
Kind regards, Colin.
My home made high speed diamond honing machine set up for action. Simple angle guide added which does the job...
...to me; I can now fill holes and dips with more confidence and if I wanted sharp corners I could now fill the dip at the right and the hole at the left before grinding but I'd like other TIG novices to see my progress good or bad we all have to start somewhere. No tungstensharpening this...
at my present place of work they keep thousands of half length tungstens pre sharpened in the store and give em out
a handfull at a time ,it discourages lads from trying to sharpen them on the job with a grinder
a pin chuck to hold the tungsten makes on site sharpening a bit safer as...
...too hot; I'm also experimenting with the amps; once the piece starts to get hot I can knock the amps back. I've done a lot less tungstensharpening too thanks to your tip Munkul regarding blunt point and I just touch the very point to give a tiny flat.
I'll try setting the welder as you...
Hi,
Many thanks Hood for your information and kind comment.
Whoops; you're right Hood; yes it's 21 cfh so I've now adjusted accordingly. You certainly know what you're on about.
Last night I said to Bron; tomorrow we've nothing on; nowhere to go; no pressing or urgent jobs to do; no visitors...
Hi,
A rare free day to get into the workshop today. It seems to take a lot longer getting the aluminium ready to weld than actually welding it. I used my big sawbench to rip a few strips of the 4mm aluminium from the sheet then cross cut on the bandsaw; file all edges and deburr; go over the...
