Resin printer question

Room temperature is fairly consistent, as the wood stove's been going whenever I'm home. Humidity is relatively consistent too, as there's a dehumidifier in here, keeping it to around 60/65%.

It looks as if you're printing solid?

Resin printing is a fight between film adhesion and interlayer strength/support strength/build plate adhesion.

Stirring the resin thoroughly in the vat to expose the film to air can help reduce film adhesion.

Making the model hollow will reduce film adhesion since surface area will be reduced.

It looks like some supports failed before the layer delaminated.

What does the model look like?

That particular failure is this one. It's printed fine once. Yes, I'm printing it solid.

A fairy house. Currently in the curing unit.




It took me ages to remove all the supports from that one, & the inside of the printer looked like a bairn had been having a bath in there, after printing it.

Had same failure above on a different model, hence why I tested with this one, again.

This is the current state of the film. It's done approx. 10,000 layers so far.

Are the roots fully supported? You can get an issue where a fault will spread

Well, base facing towards the plate, it was having none of it, so I've now got it printing on its side. We shall see how this one goes. The noises I'm hearing from the machine currently are making me feel optimistic of its chances.

It's taken several failed attempts, but taught me a valuable lesson regarding resin printers. As much of the print area as possible facing/touching the buildplate, so that the print doesn't rip itself apart.

Another question or two. A quick search online suggests acrylic paints are good for resin prints? Are they child friendly, as in a 4 year old would be okay using them?

I use acrylic paint on my resin models. I use a primer first. I wouldn't trust a youngster with them as I don't think they are safe. They carry a warning on their contents.

Sorry I missed your question. I use plastic primer from Amazon. I will try and find a link.

The Saturn is having its maiden run tonight. Only been using the Mars upto just, incase I found some peculiar way to break things. Best to do things like that with a cheaper printer. Hopefully, I may have a figurine to show, in a few hours.

Using a clear green resin, for this print. Seems weird seeing the liquid glow green when the light is on.

The print came out fine. Rough bugger here managed to snap the bottom of one wing off though, so I snapped the bottom off the other to equalise them somewhat. Those wings are very fragile. Got another one printing , currently. Going to put this one in the garden.

I was looking to get a resin printer for my nephew a few years ago but decided against. Things may have changed but a few years ago even the cured prints seem to have issues if they got broken for example.

Worth checking the current situation as things may have changed.

That may be due to printing hollow but not providing any drain holes, leaving liquid resin inside.
