The wheel on the right looks as though it's shot, the one on the left I can't tell but has a lot more meat on it. Mops usually screw onto a taper-threaded adapter and aren't used on an off-hand grinder. You need to get below the centre-line or you'll start firing bits across the workshop when an edge catches.

First off, though, you need some rests, or have you not fitted them yet?

So i need another grinder for polishing? Or take the wheel covers off this and use an adapter?

No rests or guards with this.

This is a proper buffing spindle.

You would need to removed the guard to make effective use of it but, to be honest, you'll probably find the motor doesn't have the guts so will keep slowing.
Regarding grinding without a rest - I wouldn't. It'll make the whole process a right pain in the **** and is not good practice. The one exception would be when regrinding drills.

I will be making rests and guards, i have the rest i made for grinding the lathe tools so will use that or quickly grab a rest of the other grinder.

Good job on the grinder flanges Dazza!

For polishing I would buy a 4-pole motor of at least 1hp and stick it on a bit of plate. G-clamp it to the bench when it's needed. Even my 8" grinder struggles with a mop.

Have any of you guys got a MITUTOYO 2046S Dial Indicator? The piece you turn to 0 it is so stiff that it moves everything out of position is this normal?

No, it's partially seized. I had a Bulldog brand one with total seizure. Stripped and reassembled and it was fine. It should move easily.

When you turn the bezel the outside ring of numbers 0-100 should turn with it but nothing else.

Something not right with this its only 9 months old and was like this from day 1.

Took it apart put it back together again and its still the same.

The wife finally asked whats that and why do you need it today (regarding the lathe) . My fault i told here to give all the old kids stuff away as i'm not ******* taking it to the new house. My kids are 7 and we still have their double pram and two of everything else taking up valuable garage space.

Spent most of this week painting the place we rent now, i hate painting especially when its someone else's house and she is a witch. Was hoping to move asap but in the past week the land registry have doubled the listed size of the house which will result in a massive tax payment. Lawyers involved now.

Need to move the lathe this week, if i take the splash guard off do you guys think 4 people could lift it in the back of the alhambra and lay it on its back?

It should be possible. Lengths of 1" round through the cabinet holes and you're set to go. The lads at the head end will need to be beefy though

Possibly be still top-heavy? You'd not want a lump like that taking on a mind of its own mid journey [esp half way round a corner.....]
