Golf headlight bulbs

Son bought a mk5 golf. Decided he wanted better bulbs in it, no biggie. Got the dip ones changed in minutes, very easy. Main beam, all I could do was take the rubber cover off. Could get two fingers onto the plug but had no purchase to pull it off. YouTube. Easiest way is to take the headlights out. An hour and the job was done, why do manufacturers make a simple job so awkward? Not looking forward to doing anything else on it. Think my son knew it was a pain, he's an apprentice mechcanic!

On the Octavia it is a 2 minute job to remove the headlight, you just undo a plastic nut and then pull a lever, and the headlight slides out, I would have thought that a golf 5 would have a similar arrangement.

No it's a case of taking the grill off, pulling the over rider off the bumper and undoing three studs on each headlight.

I think most modern cars seem to be designed so that the headlights have to be removed in order to change bulbs.
It's a simple process on my old A4, slacken 3 Torx screws then slide it out.
I did try doing one in situ once but soon realised it wasn't going to be easy so got my phone out and googled it.

Pretty similar to the golf

perhaps if becasue halfords started to change light bulbs
it reduced the work of the service teams so to combat it they require the head light out nowa days

Some manufacturers assume you have fingers like ET to remove the bulbholders

On my Smart you have to remove the whole front bodywork to change a light bulb. To be fair I can now do this in under 10 mins.

I have always said that manufacturers should, BY LAW, be made to design cars so bulbs can be changed by the average person. It is truly stupid that someone has to take a car to a garage to change a bulb.

it is becoming stupid the way they we have no room to change bulbs, one of the easiest was the mk3 Mondeo all you did was pull up 2 rods and the light pulled out all should be made this way

Can't get much easier than military Land Rovers, the lense unscrews by hand to expose the bulb

Cars are designed to be easily assembled, the designers don't give a thought about fixing them.

Isn't it law in Europe that you have to carry spare bulbs ? Bit pointless if manufacturers then design the cars so you can't quickly fit them on side of road, petrol station etc.

Did the bulbs in the wife's Zaf a while ago, loads of scratches too but at least you can leave the headlight in situ

My thoughts exactly. A mate had an Audi S5 and that had to go to the dealership to change a headlight bulb!

I've a 1997 peugeot 106 1.1, and it literally takes 6 seconds , one handed, to change the bulb !
