I had a 3l X-Type, official procedure on that, jack the front end up, underside guard off, front wheels both off, wheel arch liners out, front bumper off and you could then get the headlight units out to change the blubs, several hours work.
As someone has said above, mk3 Mondeo, 2 pull tabs and the unit comes out, or Mercedes A Class (old shape, but not the ones that fell over) twist 1 turnbuckle and the washer bottle came out, it even had extra long pipes and a moulding on another part in the engine to hold the bottle giving full access to the light cluster. Some designers can manage it.
