Ouchouchouch. I haven't gone down the road for a couple of decades now, but I dread it as I know in my late fifties I really don't bounce as well as I used to. I avoid riding in winter these days because of it, which is wimpy I know, but discretion is the better part of valour, and cowardice is the better part of discretion! Hope you feel better soon!

Not often enough , fair weather rider these days . Below is the genuine mileage from new and the bike is a 96, it might be due its first service next year

I fell of my X7 twice...once where the twin roundabouts on the kingsway were in Dundee, pulled away feeling rear tyre get squirelly, and promptly fell over...diesel, bloke beside me stopped "you ok mate"...was really tempted to say "just peachy pal, what with a hot engine on my right thigh and all"...instead "yeah I'm ok, picked it up, limped off the roundabout, checked for damage and rode away.
Second time, coming home in the dark from the tech park, came to a mini roundabout, saw the wet trickle too late, front end slid out, I went over the bars and headbutted the tarmac, helmet slid and smacked me in the teeth...that was a fun night...

I have had some crashes in Dundee too. Riding down the Hilltown on a CB550 in the snow and the same bike coming into Dundee from Perth, the rear brake drum collapsed locking the back end - that was fun.... bike bought from a Satan's Slave in Kirkcaldy - ideal for parking on the street when I lived in Dundee....

I'm not as bendy as I was, my latest test was falling about 6to7 ft off a railway wagon and landing on my back, seen the stars (even though it was day light) lay for a minute everything working(extremely lucky) My hair was even hurting. It took a few days to get over that one. I've had couple of offs with bikes as well, I suppose the good side is we're all still here. Where's a stand in when you want one?

The absolute most important biker question:

How's the bike?

Too right: when I slid off in Luxembourg last year I was back up and trying to heave the beast out from under an Armco barrier, convinced I was going to jump back on and keep riding.
Alas not: front wheel, both stanchions and a brake caliper U/S.
At the last count I was down £800... but as the barmaid in the local hotel said, "not everyone who crashes on that bend makes it down here for a coffee afterwards".

In that case I surrender my 'fat bike' crown to you Sir; the Pan European is a paltry 330Kg wet - and you can pick it up single-handed as it can't fall right over, it lands on the engine bars at about 30 degrees.
I did once work out that if you filled the panniers and topbox to max capacity, put 29L of fuel in the tank, added a tankbag and a pillion who's not built like Kate Moss, the gross weight is just shy of half a tonne.

A guy at Exxon Mossmorran told me a few years ago that a 'sassenach' was a Scot from the lowlands, not specifically an Englishman.

EDIT: however every online reference to the term I can find does say it means one from south of the border, so maybe the guy was just being nice to me

Anyway, a good percentage of Scots must be French...?
I was working up at Faslane a couple of years back and the rented house we stayed in along the loch had a library; I was reading an interesting book all about the French ships that used to drop by for various nefarious reasons. I never did finish reading it and am damned if I can recall the title now.
