A friend of mine ran a fabrication firm but he's retired this year. He would not employ anyone under 40 for the last few years because the younger staff he employed were prone to ringing in any time they had been out on the lash or felt like a lie in.

I have done worrying about laws as regards work. It's impossible not to break the law now as they made so darn many. Best way to get a job now with a big firm or government is to tick all the minority boxes! Bingo we have a winner gay, bisexual, lesbian, transgenda, disabled from an underprivileged background with special needs from another solar system

And the question is this....is it best business practice...or discrimination??

Insurance is allowed to do it.......yes I know females have had prices rocket....but to be honest with so many young girls driving like maldonado it was inevitable the price would rise anyway. . In general you are less of a risk as you get older..

But that just comes down to management, there are plenty of good young people around just are there are plenty of over 40s with a very poor attitude

my daughters just secured a good job with siemens wind turbines. shese only 24 and been in the industry 2 years . a lot of older guys are peed off that have been in the business a lot longer and wonder why she got the job . the reason given to them was she has stronger electrical and electronics experience .they don't know she was a weapons engineer for 5years in navy . they want younger people with initiative to train who will progress up the ladder . LITERALLY

Just out of interest did anyone ring the number to tell the prospective employer that the EU/PC police are coming to smash his back doors in and put him straight ??

I think the general consensus is the "risk" is more with youngsters who are less likely have a mortgage......you are of course correct though.
