Aldi angle grinder

Bought an Aldi Parkside angle grinder today and I am very disappointed. The gearbox is very rough with a great amount of backlash. When the disk is mounted on the grinder You can move it at least 8 degrees with the washers moving also but the spindle stays motionless. I wish I hadn't bought it even though it was only £20 but I suppose you cant get Makita or Hitachi quality for that price.

Yes with the nut done up. I checked to make sure the disk was seated properly and nothing was fouling any where.

Is that the Lidle Parkside one? Or the Aldi Workzone one? I've got 2 Aldi workzone ones for running a wire cup brush and a flap disc and both are fine. They certainly don't have that sort of backlash in the spindle

cheak it over and get a swop i got a finger sander the first it got was a bit slopy the 2nd was fine

ive had one for a while now and its been great..

popping in there today to get some OJ, will see if they have any more..

could do with another two........

I have got one of those exclusively for rust removal, it has a 100mm wire cup brush fitted on it.

Just repack the gearbox with as much HMP grease you can get in there, and you'll be right.

I've cut the silly bottom plate from the guard to allow the fitting of the brush and you really do need to run it at no-more than 5 on the vari-speed switch otherwise the brush is over revving and will fly apart.

yer i ground the spot welds away and took that off..

Take it back, swop it for another, see what that's like.
I've had two Lidl angle grinders for just about ten years, they're on their second set of brushes but have outlasted a B & D one and two Wickes' versions. I think they were about £15 each and operate in a pretty aggressive environment. Makita and Hitachi both good but as you say more expensive.

I have a parkside 9" grinder, it gest used and abused for all sorts, still going strong

Been back to liddles changed it for another one. The new one lots better I suppose its down to whoever assembles them in the factory for the difference quality you get.
I bought one because other people on this forum said they are pleased with theirs.
Made a mistake saying Aldis when it was Liddles.

is the nut on upside down ?

goes one way up for grinding disks (thick) and the other way for cutting disks (thin)

I'm another one who's happy with my cheapo from Aldi, though like others I had to cut out the silly bit on the guard that stops you using it!

On mine, the nut closes right onto the washer on the 'thin' side so technically you can't have too thin a disc.

I have an Hitachi that does...but looks like it can't. Lol

Happy with my Aldi grinders too, one I keep for Sunday best but the other has been used and abused, dropped, hit, swore at and kicked and still going fine.

Sorry I read it wrong. I thought you had purchased 12. lol

I went to my next to local Aldi when they had them for 10 quid and my local one was closed for refurb. I phoned and they had 8 I asked them to reserve them and they said fine. I went over to buy them ALL and they had none.....had none for weeks apparently.

I ever got a parking ticket.....I have not paid it though.
