If I could I would have it done. Been breaking pound shop specs for a few yrs; I saw not piont in breaking expensive ones.

Wanted some contacts to use on the bike, only wanted a pack of dailes. But once I'd seen the difference, I was hooked. I've got a multifocal in my dominant eye, and a fixed in the right. I can see in detail from 200mm.

They stay in for a month, unless I get something in them, which was a total pain for the first 6weeks now I dont know they are there. Costs me £89 for 2x6 lens for 6months use inc cleaning fluid

I've a few negative mate's who knows someone who knows Dave down the pub who it didn't work on,

But I think most of the negative comments about it not being successful are from those that have correction on their 40s,
then the close up vision starts to deteriorate (as it dose with us all) ,and it gets blamed on the surgery being crap.

I looked into it when I was in my 20's (30+ years ago). A clinic in Edinburgh had just opened and they were giving demonstrations on how it worked. IIRC they use a grape. I spoke with the surgeon after the talk but was told "NO" I wasn't suitable because I had a lazy eye and if they screwed up my good one I'd be up **** creek. "Maybe once the technique has improved you can try again." To this day they won't do the procedure on me. I'd have it done if I could.

Night time traffic glare is probably the worst side effect, especially with the new types of ultra-white beam LED and HID headlights, and cycle lights, too. Heard from several people who have had it done, including a traffic cop.

You can pay more to avoid it, with some gizmo that takes a map of the eye and tracks movement, I've gone for this and they must be confident in it because if it doesn't work they give you a full refund!

I cant remember the name of the procedure I had, but it was the bog standard cut the flap, fold it back, laser the bit inside, put the flap back, have an eye test then go home to recover. I've suffered no problems or side effects from it at all, and still have better than 20/20 vision.

No with PRK the flap is discarded and has to grow back ,whereas LASIK the flap is put back making the recovery quicker.

That's incorrect. With PRK the surface of your cornea (epithelium) is scraped away prior to the laser treatment. Hence it requires 48 hours to recover. With LASIK you have a flap which then covers the treated surface and promotes faster healing.

My brother in law and mother in law both had it done a few years ago and haven't required glasses since.
My BIL had particularly bad sight (+6 I think) and had to have it done one eye one week and then return the following week to get the other eye done. Still came out with 20/20 eventually.

It was lasik I had then. The cornea was cut and folded back out of the way, then put back in place after the laser session.

The main difference between PRK and LASIK is the first step of the procedures.

In LASIK, a thin flap is created on the cornea with a microkeratome or a femtosecond laser. This flap is lifted to expose the underlying corneal tissue and is replaced after the cornea is reshaped with an excimer laser.

In PRK, the thin outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) is removed and discarded prior to reshaping the underlying corneal tissue with an excimer laser. The epithelium repairs itself (grows back over the corneal surface) within a few days after surgery.

The description is not entirely accurate, hence your understandable misinterpretation. The procedure is to numb the eye and scrape the epithelium away, it is not excised. Believe me, I've had it done and discussed the process at length with the surgeon.

I'm not disbelieving you at all, and what I know about the subject you could fit on the back of a postage stamp, I just read the above info and took it to be correct

It's not just people who have had Laser eye surgery who are sensitive to the ultra-white beam LED and HID headlights on modern cars, I find them horrendously bright and irritating but my eyesight is okay. Some are so bad I end up driving with one hand on the steering wheel and the other held up to block out the oncoming vehicles headlights from shinning in my eyes.

What we need is some glasses with filters that reduce these ultra-white headlight frequencies while allowing all the rest to come through unchanged.

My sister was like a moth, she used to steer towards the oncoming lights and her husband used to reach over to pull the wheel back

She gave up night driving in a very short time.
