If it wasn't a council ticket, then it isn't a fine anyway, it is a speculative invoice. Only the Police, the courts and the council can levy a fine.

According to a lawyer on Radio 4's "You and Yours" if the T's&C's are displayed in the carpark and you park in the carpark you are deemed to have agreed to those T's&C's and entered into a contract with the carpark operator. If those T's&C's say you have to pay a penalty for overstaying you have to pay it. You may be able wangle out of it on a technicality or an appeal to the carpark owner or operator.
People have been taken to court by carpark operators and lost.

It was worse than that. my local store was shut for refurb.... saw 10 quid grinders advertised in store only. phoned head office who told me a nearby store had 8. I went to the store and after over 30 mins they decided they had none. so I purchased bread and left. I never saw signs that I had to put my reg number into a machine as it was dark.
Apparently it's a pay and display with 30 mins free.

That is an opinion that has been shown to be wrong. It is like you putting terms and conditions on here that says that spelling errors will be invoiced at £100 per occurrence. You cannot enter a contract unilaterally, much less an unfair one.
Only when they have not bothered to defend the parasite's speculative action. That gives them default judgement.

It's not a unilateral contract, they are saying "These are the terms" and you agree to them by using the carpark. Like websites say you agree to accept cookies if you want to use some websites.
The guy on Radio 4 stated that defended actions have been won by the plaintiff.
Obviously you can interpret the situation as you like and at your own risk.

Ah, you are repeating the selective facts that the parasites publicise. In order to form a contract, there has to be a meeting of the minds and a consideration, in addition to an offer and acceptance. In the absence thereof, the parasites can only request payment of their genuine losses, not being permitted by law to charge a "penalty". Unless the parasite owns or leases the property, they have no losses apart from the cost per hour, should there be one of the parking time.
The only win that the parasites have chalked up as an example is the one where a driver had sued the parasite for some reason. That went to the Court of Appeal, whose judges (not living on planet Earth) decided that £100 was a perfectly reasonable charge. In effect they tried to rewrite the law about penalty charges in that instance.

Our local Aldi gives you an hour and a half free parking (2 hours with a blue badge) seems very fair to me considering it's in an area where parking is a nightmare most days.
Why anyone would want to spend longer than that in a supermarket is beyond me and the one's who get caught usually park there, walk into town and forget the time...serves them right.

It was Aldi and i was only in there the time it took them to establish they did not have the items I wanted.... and to pay for my bread. it seems the thing I did wrong was to not input my reg number into the parking eye ticket meter..... which I was not aware I had to do.
As I never had a parking charge the week before I can only assume.. that you get 30 mins free as I was not looking good for grinders that night and was in and out inside 5 mins.
I was phoned at 20.14 and 20.47 so they claim it was 32 mins. I was not parked for 32 mins as I had to find drive in find a space and drive out BUT that is semantics.
Time in car park was 33 mins not 32 like they claim

We are lucky not to have that hassle, it works off the cameras entering and leaving, wonder why they have installed that method, half the people driving don't even remember their reg number at best of times.
So does this ..... photos. One in one out.
Seems like you get 30 mins free. but over 30 mins it's still free but you have to put your reg number into the machine in store.... doh.

No machines at ours..thankfully, I guess even though it is Aldi's they must use different parking contractors around the country and each have their own system.

My table saw arrived yesterday so unboxed this morning, quite impressed overall, even by the ease the young lady from Yodel carried it up the path, will have to remember never to argue with her, it's a heavy box.
So unpacked and bolted together and still impressed apart from the long saw guide, it's a flaming mile out of true, well perhaps not a mile but enough to be useless, can't see any obvious adjustment facility in the clamp housing but needs more studying, so when back later I will find the adjustment or start the designing of a new system.
The TCT blades whilst obviously not top of the range certainly don't come across as thin rubbish and nice to have the choice of teeth (48 and 24tpi) for differing cuts.
It's also got a lazer cutting guide, not yet tried but could be handy if accurate and stays working beyond the first half dozen cuts.
It's a good size table as it is, feels fairly robust and a perfect height plus with the side extension plates added it will be quite a big table, well sized for any serious hobby worker.
I think a big improvement would be having the side plates on a quick locate and release method rather than fixed bolting together, will make storage so much better in the workshop, will get the thinking cap on, perhaps some nicely turned locating pins...everything I buy proves a lathe is a must have in the workshop
All in all a very good outfit for £89....so far.

My wife got parking fine from Parking Eye at Aldi in Leek, Staffs. Was within the 2 hours but forgot to note reg in machine on exit. She's bought a few items and had receipt so thought there would be no problem getting fine overturned. Turned out Aldi head office deemed that the few items purchased would have taken just a few minutes to buy so the other hour + would have been spent elsewhere. Seems they only offer free parking WHILST YOU ARE IN THE STORE. So no matter how much you spend you can't then go to other places after Aldi shopping without incurring a fine.
I went and took photo's of the signs and spoke to branch manager but couldn't get any indication of the rule so decided to fight. In the end my wife wore the person at head office down and they agreed to cancel the fine this time but I've vowed never shopped at that branch again (there are two closer to me without any restrictions)

we had the reg machines in our new aldi they lasted a week or two, then there where signs put up 'we have listened to the comments from our shoppers' and you no longer need to use the machines, so sense is applied------ sometimes
