Flaring tool

I say Flaring tool as it's primarily Brakes I need it for but I have seen this on halfords Web site. 121882 it's laser brand And could be useful for aluminium pipes as well. BUT it's not available in stores (so I guess it's why buy from halfords as I have to collect and not till Wednesday.

Anyway does anyone reccomend a sensible priced brake Flaring kit or is that laser one worth getting?

I have one almost the same as that, I think mine is draper branded though.

It's not great, but I've repiped a couple of braking systems with it.

If I had to use it every day, I'd weld it shut and hit it a lot then throw it in a lake

I do have a neilson kit but it's quicker to buy a new one that waste time trying to find it just now... lol Apart from that it's one of the tools I purchased to see if I needed one. I do as it happens so I was going to upgrade anyway.

you dont say what your budget is and this might be a bit spendy but the Sykes Flaremaster 2 kit makes very repeatable ends.

Well as little as possible but brakes are not areas to scrimp on..... so it's a balance.

Well, it's not bad...

It's just a faff to get set up and make flares without either crushing the pipe or slipping.

If you're not against the clock it's usable, but it's not quite fun.

Sounds like the neilson one. if Double boost uses the one he posted up its good enough for me

Fully understand<edit 'understood', makes more sense :-)> , I have a 7 quid Chinese one in my 'mobile' kit and with a bit of effort it makes ends that work perfectly, if I need to re pipe a project car I use the Sykes, its 'orses for courses etc.

These are good and are small enough to use on the car, I like to cut the pipe over length and do the final flare with the pipe fitted.
Little tip: use a throttle/brake cable inside the pipe when bending to prevent it collapsing, it just gives you that little bit more room for error especially when bending freehand.
Can be used on copper (best avoided), Cunifer or stainless.

I've got the snap on/bluepoint version of this kit and it works fine as long as you make sure the pipe hasn't been crushed slightly while cutting it.I poke an awl down the tube before flaring it.

Depends what you mean by 2 stage flares.

It seems it might not do. if that a DIN flare you mean?

Single and double laps can be created on 4.75mm (3/16") pipes. I imagine it will be SAE single or double you will need but might be worth checking.

The single is just one stage, you put it in and it flares out, the two stage is a double, it flares it out first and then you do the second stage and it folds it over with a chamfer. Mine are mainly doubles but I think there is the occasional single. I think mine used a single into the brake calliper and all the rest were doubles, that's on an old Volvo though.
