looks like a 3.5 or 3.9 rover v8 to me.

probaly knackerd, the 4.0 4.2 and 4.6 crossbolted blocks can have a value but they are known for going porus but really they tend to loose liners it's not terminal but it's expensive to fix, £60 a pot on the cheep £100 - 120 a pot to do it right but theres 8 of them

Not really brightspark as it would need a glass top to be any good and that is a no no with the ages of our grandkids!

Make it anyway, then sell it.

crossbolted blocks

I've heard this a couple of times, what does it mean?

The main bearing caps have bolts holding them across the engine as well as into. The bolts run through the sides of the crankcase into the sides of the main bearing caps and run along the same axis as the sump gasket. It helps tie the bottom end together a little more solidly which is a good thing.
