was talking to a mate the other week and he kept going on abot some new drill bits he had bought...said they were the best he has ever had, drill throguh steel like its butter etc...so he shows them to me and the only thing that i really thought was, they look like polished mild steel...they obviously arent but it got me thinking...

so when i got home i rummaged through my spare drill box, found a 6mm and 8mm (he uses these quite regularly) and got them glowing with the blowtorch, let them cool in air and tested them with a file...yep, they are soft now...gave them a clean up with a wire wheel and they looked remarkably similar to the ones my mate has got, so friday i went over, got him distracted and swapped them for his good ones...

i had forgotten all about it until he text me just now asking if i knew anything about why his 6mm drill wont cut anymore

so, what other practical jokes do we all like to play?

when i first worked where i am now i moved the site managers brand spanking new M3 to the otehr carpark after he left his keys in the office after a meeting...i was a process leader in my first role so had to attend morning meetings, everyone wanted to see what the inside of an M3 looked like, i wanted to know what it drove like lol

Many years ago at tech college metalwork, when everyone was dutifully and laboriously filing lumps of mild steel to precise dimensions, carefully connected all the steel top benches together, and then applied HT voltage from Champion spark plug cleaning/testing machine. The effect was highly amusing, as nearly everyone got a shock same time, and as the tester was triggered from a fair distance away those responsible were never caught..............

We get loads of parcels at work with production samples from various different vendors.. Often they will package multiple things for different people in the same box which then gets passed around. Good fun to cut the bottom out of a box, put it on someone's desk in front of their keyboard and fill it with polystyrene chippings, ideally on a Friday afternoon ready for Monday morning :-)

A bit like filling a mates brolly with the contents of the hole punch. Serves him right, as soon as there's the merest whiff of rain the whole of southern England try their best to poke each other's eyes out with brollies.

hadnt thought of that...thats a cracking idea...i am in on nights tomorrow night and one of our maangers is in 6am wednesday...ive got a load of packing peanuts here from the CWS box...

he left his keys on the desk and went for a cup of tea with the managers...he is up for a joke every now and then...he saw the funny side but still doesnt know it was me

a few winters ago placed chunks of fish in the heater outlet ducts of a site managers newish car ,we knew come the w/e he'd be taking someone out to impress ,by which time the fish would be nicely rotting!

Back in the days when office PCs were still a novelty and the one-finger brigade spent an entire morning painfully tapping out one email, someone in our office thought it'd be really helpful to prise the caps off the keys and move them around...

Not a prank , but there's a lad in our office that's jumbled the keys on his desk calculator. The sods memorised all the locations regardless of what the key denotes. Stops anyone knicking his calculator.

Air horn taped to the gas strut on their chair, so when they sit down HONK!!

Our in-house IT guy uses one of these remote control packages so he can twiddle with your PC while you're sat at it. Sometimes he'll download an upgrade or whatever and I've worked out that he goes off to do other things... so I open a web browser and type DONKEY POR then go off to do some job in the workshop, making it look like he's the pervert

The old classic used to be to take a screenshot of the desktop, open it in Paint Shop Pro and full-screen it. So now the mouse cursor moves around but none of the icons work...

did that to my mother once...she had a habit of going through my laptop when i was in school...never anything on there that shouldnt be but she just loved snooping around, so i made a folder called SECRET, placed it on the desktop, screenshot, set as background then deleted the file...all the other icons worked except the one marked SECRET...i know she saw it and tried opening it because a few weeks later she asked if i knew how to 'lock' a folder so it couldnt be clicked on...

Back in the days of DOS when Windows was started by typing WIN at the C:\ prompt a mate was good at creating startup batch files on floppy disks and slipping them in peoples PC's. My two favourites were the really tiny font for the C:\ prompt you had to squint at and the one that came up;
