What's caused this??

My son has just got a new sx200 after the german debacle.

It has a strange problem with the paint on one wing. It's like someone has chucked paint stripper or brake fluid on it. BUT the top of the wing is also affected. So even if it was tipped over when the b9nnet 2as up the door should have been affected.

Any ideas...?

So you are saying it's been on fire before being painted. It's not a write off.

I can't see it being on fire after it was damaged as you can see paint is fine between the major damage and where the wing rises up to the screen.

My son had one of those some years back, nice car. Really quick, but his had been got at though. Pretty damn quick as standard though. There is, or was a thriving owners club for them. Have a check for exhaust leaks where the turbo bolts onto the exhaust manifold, his tended to come loose. We cured it in the end, he found some special heat resistant stud & nuts if I recall.

From memory, I think there were 2 engines fitted, a 1.8 & a 2.0 which is his?

But, if you look at the white marks it looks like it was covered with a liquid.

That liquid is AFFF foam from a fire extinguisher.
I see it a lot.

I once had an engineer who washed his van down with a scraped unit.
OOOOPS.
Full re-spray needed.

I would guess that is a replacement wing off a scrapper of the same colour that had some fire/paint stripper damage they had not got round to respraying.

But no one has still explained why there is some untouched paint between the top right and the center. Does AFFF attack paint Then?

I am more inclined to think it's a liquid. As I have said some of them paint on top of the wing is undamaged.

Having removed the wing it looks like it was fitted at time of manufacture.

The whole car is surprisingly solid. None of the usual rust in most places. It's only got some at the rear of the calls which is great first to go due to design I think.

It does have the 2.0 litre Det and is running at 267 currently.

I ws more concerned that when we paint the wing it does not need special treatment.

Personally I would say it's brake fluid being tipped while the bonnet was up. My only reservation was the damaged paint top right corner. But it's not cut and dried what's caused it ..lol

Looking at the pattern at the area near the windscreen and seeing no damage at all on the A-post leads me to agree that it's a wing that's been added later.

If a fluid was poured over it why does it funnel out upwards from the wheel arch
