Afternoon all.
I have been after a TIG for a little while, as I've always wanted to be able to weld aluminium. Its not something I need to do very often, but I'd just like to add it to my skill set.
I got lucky with the new gearbox for my Land Rover and have saved a significant chunk of money over what I was thinking it was going to cost me, so I am considering investing in a TIG.
But I'm still on a bit of a budget. Ideally, I'd like to spend about £700 on a machine. I would prefer to buy a better machine 2nd hand, rather than a cheaper new machine. Is this advisable.
I'll mention that I know nothing about TIG welders. I keep seeing older transformer based ones on ebay and I'll admit they appeal to me, as I'd rather a nice simple transformer, than a box of magic, but whether in real life this is actually a good idea, I have no idea. Is there anything I should be ensuring I have, or perhaps more importantly, ensuring I avoid. Should I hold off for a while and spend more on a machine?
Anyway, any thoughts or do's/don'ts would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Andrew
