Pedrazzoli Cold Saw.........Project Saw

I've been looking for a sensibly priced cold saw for a while now, I was going to buy one off the bay of flea's this week, but the seller pulled it early. So a rethink was necessary, called in at a local second hand machinery dealers yesterday on the off chance, to have a chat.

Turns out they had a "Project Saw" that they didn't know what condition it was in, as their tame electrician refused to wire it up....Hmmm... I'll have a look...

Went today to have a look at it, as the dealers were going to scrap it this afternoon due to it not being tested...

So 20 quid (scrap value) was exchanged for this.... including swarf.

The clamp slide appears to have been repaired at some stage but seems to work ok...

There was also a 240 volt suds pump and tank included.

After a bit of de-greasing and a steam clean:

As far as I can see it needs a new switch enclosure for the rotary speed selector switch, a mains contactor, an emergency stop switch and a total rewire, plus a new blade.

Does anyone have a copy of the operators/service/spec's manual by any chance, please???

Hello john, I've got a slightly larger export brown ( but in essence the same saw) it has no contactor, the motor is run through the rotary switch. I've not managed to source a manual for it yet but I do have a good contact for blades and regrinding of blades. Il dig the details out when I'm at the workshop tomorrow and post them

I bought one about 10 years ago as a project - supposedly the motor needed re-winding, but in practice it was fine - the problem was a stripped gear. I was able to buy spares from a UK dealer - the gear and also the two speed motor switch, which is mounted on the base on mine. Very good saws. Shame about your vice as that wont be easy to fix. Mine also has the hydraulic assist like yours.

Had a quick google and dont see any under 300 quid that are not 90 % plastic. That is a good buy.

I was wondering what the cylinder/ram was used for, does it tighten the vices grip or open the vice when the cut has finished???

One of those things (for me) to be discovered as yet...

I think it is supposed to clamp tighter as the saw is pulled down. I suspect when set up correctly you can have stock in the vice so it just slides, and it gets gripped when you pull the saw down. Useful for repeated cuts using the length stop.

Update:

I contacted an agent for the saw manufacturer and found out that the switch enclosure is still an available part...... but it's expensive...

And I cheekly asked if they had a manual in a PDF file form, which they kindly emailed to me. So if anyone wants a copy let me know.

Planning on connecting up the saw for a test run at work, if I can get the time tomorrow . Fingers crossed.......

Added a dash of 3 phase this morning and it lives
..

Now a new switch enclosure will be ordered tomorrow ( 60 quid all in...) , plus a blade and a bit of wiring......

Now a question, soluble cutting oil (suds) is a pain due to having to change it.

Is there a neat oil alternative for lathe and machine work that will last for longer, or could I get away with using hydraulic oil as an alternative???

I have a 205 litre drum of neat cutting oil on eBay at the moment - Rye Oils Neatcut 22 suitable for ferrous and non ferrous metals, sawing, turning & milling

Hmmm, 205 ltrs a is bit OTT for my needs atm.

22 grade oil could it be based on hydraulic type oil???
