Anyone own a Colchester triumph 2000?

There's a triumph 2000 in an auction near me and I keep thinking about bidding for it on the off chance it goes for a low price, it's a bit bigger than I would like but if it's cheap enough....

I'm thinking it'll weigh about 1500kg? It's the 1200mm between centre version but I can't find anywhere that lists the overall dimensions so wondered if anyone has one or knows where I might find the sizes.

Moving it would be interesting but not impossible, rough plan would be fork lift onto a twin axle trailer, tow it home, slip one of the local farmers some cash to lift it off trailer and use scaffolding poles as rollers to get it in the garage.

And the final problem is the 7.5hp spindle motor, I'm thinking of fitting a 3hp motor on an inverter as the bigger inverters seem to be around £1500

Can anyone see any flaws?

Can you hear it run before you bid ? The heads on the square head colchesters can get noisy because the people who have them never change the oil. I swear a lot of them have the oil they left the factory with.

That's one of the many problems I keep thinking of plus I don't know how worn it is, it's not too far from home but I'd need to get about 2 to 3 hours off work to view it and the only viewing window is tomorrow...

If it wasn't so close to home I wouldn't be interested, part of me hopes it fails to meet the unknown reserve and that could give me time to go and look at and negotiate a price.

namely a 8 hour working day in industry with hard use. a 3hp will do most of what u require in home workshop

I think my Master 2500 has a 5hp motor, i picked up an inverter for it and it runs fine. Be careful when moving it because the weight is high up on lathes, i have heard of several lads killed when the lathes they were moving toppled over.

Yep, definitely a long bed triumph 2000, thanks for the details, it's a bit lighter than I thought and I'd estimated 2.5m long, I was 62mm out

Excellent result and another success story for the Mig Welding forum.

Now the challenge for the Forum--how on earth you sneak this Colchester triumph2000 lathe in without the missus knowing.

She wouldn't mind if I Said I'd bought a Triumph 2000. (she leaned to drive in one).
But I think there would be some dissapointment when it turns out its a ruddy great lathe and not a car.

If it's the one I think it is then if you don't reach the reserve get on the blower as soon as the time limit expires and see if there's haggling to be done; sometimes there is with that lot.

It probably is the same one, if anyone is interested its on the Sweeney Kincaid site along with a pile of other engineering stuff at Dumfries, I may as well mention that as I've measured up tonight and it's just too big for now, plus I'd have to send the wife away for a week so I could sneak it in, then I'd have to explain where the chest freezer had gone

there is a crowd not a million miles from me here that id ask anything between €5-7k for a tidy(ish) 2500.

some day ill invest in one but i dont know if ill go for a triumph or a mastiff tbh.

Or buy a Harrison
