Yes OK..it's a drill, a damn heavy one I have just bust a gut getting home in two bits...mine all mine

What a weight it was and I will take better pictures tomorrow when I join the two half's back together, it looks better in real life than the photo, no play in the quill at all and the motor is lovely to run.

it's a full height floor standing model.

So...anyone know what it really is, I suspect it's a rebadged name? or is Astra a known brand , age?, any info at all?

You are right there mate, I was amazed how heavy it was, suspension was down at the back.

I had to split my progress drill to get it home. I was dreading a crash with that in the boot!!

ASTRA PRECISION BENCH DRILL, possibly Sold in the UK by Scot-Urquhart of London,

A compact 1/2″ capacity 3 speed drill with a 2″x 8″ T slotted table. Light under the drill chuck can be adjusted from 2″ – 8″ by handle under the belt cover, quill travel is 2″and has adjustable depth stop. The machine is single phase with a built in work light, overall the drill is in excellent machanical condition, could do with a repaint at some stage. Buyer collects or arranges collection.

I had an Astra tool and cutter grinder excellent machine
Sold as others have said by Scott Urquhart which according to Lathes. Co. UK could be made by CST of Milan

Some good info there, this one is a 16mm chuck, assuming it's the original, I presume it will be a MT1 fit.

I will put it back together tomorrow and see what other details I can find out, also what size the motor is.

It's history is standing in an upstairs workshop (barn) for many years with virtually no use, someone apparently stood on the cowl as a ladder and it's a tad distorted, will soon have that back into shape.

Will probably do a decent tidy up of it but not a full restoration, although it would be a nice project so you never know.

The plate on the front states 1974 and 1hp motor... and I never noticed whilst heaving it around.
