info on perkins engine needed

can anyone help I have an oldish perkins 3 cylinder engine on my -compressor. need a head gasket for it but would like to know the head torque setting for it or where I could get info for it and also the tappet clearences for the valves . any help appreciated

Do you know what engine it is? It will be a 3.???

The first number being the number of cylinders and the next 3 will be the displacement in cubic inches.

I've done a few head gaskets on Perkins over the years simple enough to find info once you know the engine size.

You could also try Perkins themselves, they were very helpful when I wanted some info on my 4203.

a 152 sounds like a 3 cylinder version of a 4203 ((152/3)*4=202.666). Do the cam followers act directly on the rockers? ie no pushrods.

the pushrods are rather thick and slide -through the cylinder head

im going to hazard a guess from memory at 75-80 foot pounds, they are 11/16 and nuts,check the threads are all good as I recall the nuts were softer then the studs

thanks for the help -so far a genuine head gasket is 20 quid- plus vat a 2 week wait and 12 quid delivery dunno wether a pattern one will be ok from ebay

is that a copper gasket? how are the combustion chamber caps? they used to be a bugger to seal,if its hot hissing leave them alone I say! i think my estimate was a bit high but I cant remember properly, i know we used to liberally cover the gasket in engine oil before we torqued the head and ran it on a milk bottle of diesel to heat the engine up for the second torque,my father literally rebuilt hundreds of them engines!

Those will be the cam followers - the camshaft is set high in the block and they don't use pushrods as we know them Jim. Is tappet clearance set by a setscrew and locknut?

think they are about 70 ft/lb. valve clearance will be somethign like .0015 for the inlet and .0020 for the exhaust

from what i rember of these motors with the copper gasket retorque the head once it's hot

Brilliant engines, I have a couple old massey fergusons with these in, or should that read I did before some one else sez it ,ha.
first click of the key and away they go, wish I was as quick getting fired up these days.

is it all nuts thats holding on the head or a mix of nuts and set screws?
the torques differ depending on.
