why reverse![]()
ComicYou need reverse so people who don't know what they are at can burn out your drill bits and reamers.
3ph or single?
I bought an eBay jobby for £15, its actually marketed as a change over switch. Took some figuring out. It covers my 3 phase motor on the lathe and had one position spare, which I wired through the contactor coil so the motor had to be manually restarted once direction was changed.
Have you ascertained that your motor is reversible? If so can you provide the wiring for forward & reverse?
Thanks, I'll see if I can get to it and put a pic. on here. There is sometimes a diagram on the inside of the plate that covers the connections.
Having owned [at home] & used [at work] a number of pillar drills over the last 50 odd yrs I can honestly say I've never had the need to run any of them in reverse.

Not at all jordan, tapping under power with a jacobs chuck the tap will slip because the tap is hardened & so are the chuck jaws, so any of the larger taps will just slip & if using smaller taps then power tapping is fraught with snapping the tap, when I "start" a tap in my geared meddings & just put it into neutral & turn the spindle round by hand,as you say the alternative is an automatic tapping head which not only has a slipping clutch built in to help prevent snapping taps but reverses when you lift up.You probably would if you wanted to do some tapping without a Tapmatic or such like.
the drill wouldn't turn slow enough for tapping anyhow and try stopping forward quick holding the quill down then put in reverse ive tapped many a hole by hand. still if it floats your boat doing it good luck everyone to there ownYou probably would if you wanted to do some tapping without a Tapmatic or such like.

unless u want to spend about 70 quid on a Dewhurst reversing drum one get a - Chinese one of eblag delivered for about 9 quid then get a test meter to work the -conections out as theres no instructionsIn its slowest speed in low gear it is slow, believe me. For the cost involved I would just like to give it a try.
