When ordering parts it probably worth buying a decent trusted brand, these things probably fail due to cheap parts being used in the first place

Hi Skotl, that be great please.
If you look at the Hobnob pic.... See the top 2 big 2200uf caps, just to the right the Transformer, Above the transformer is the 3 legged mosfet and just to the left of that fet is the 2r2 thats frazzed. so the 3 legged component to the left of the 2r2 is the Tosh Fet. I've ordered a few of these. ( From Hong Kong so might take a while)
What do you think of the 4 huge capacitors? the one in the bottom right of the cluster in the pic with the hobnobs has 2 lots of 3 tiny holes in the plastic top. could this be fried toooooooooo? Thank for your help mate mucho appreciated.
It's true but it's just not my way, I always buy the cheap stuff and struggle on with duct tape, pliers and a staple gun. Ill never learn. I think I enjoy it in some wierd way or maybe I'm just tight. Think it all stems from never having any money as a kid. My last big extravagance was those chocko hobnobs and a big bottle of Agon I bought 3 years ago. I'm saving it like a bottle of the best champers and making do with flux core.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, I knew it, I should have been in advertising lol. I knew someone would have to go to the shops.

You know what I think that looks like? That the board above it has been too close and you're looking at pinholes created by the wires from that board above.
That's not good, and may have contributed to the failure of any of the pins managed to ground themselves on anything below.
Can you match these pinpricks up with the underneath of the board from above?
FWIW, I doubt that the pinpricks have damaged the cap, but they're common parts so you'd be as well to replace it anyway.

A blooming good explanation Holmes, Just had a nose and although the top board is about an inch away It does look like the one above has been sat on the one below. Ill get some on order just in case. Well done Sherlock. Aaa I mean Skotl

mine worked fine, until one day the HF wasn't working.
would fire up, it was like trying to scratch start it.
opened it up and found one of the 5w cement resistors had come off the PCB at one end.
i brought four 7w ones to replace them, but not got round to it yet.
and now i forgot where i put them LOL

It's a great feeling to get something back from the dead, innit?Hi Gaz.
Problem was...
Switch on, light on, all as normal, press torch trigger and air comes out with tiny arc that goes instantly and then the digital display fades and all stays dead until you switch off at mains wait a bit and does the same again next time you switch on.
I replaced the Tosh K3878 as in pic1 also the 103/6 in pic2, the 2r2 in pic3 and soldered some wire over the broken tracks in pic 3, the resistor in skots pic7 and that was it. think the parts all came to about £4.50 ish. cheeeers
