Hi,
I have a couple of tailgate hinge brackets to weld to a Land Rover rear crossmember. The crossmember is about 2mm thick and the hinge is 6mm. I will have 2 vertical fillet welds to do one each hinge.
Now on stick welding I was taught to go from bottom to top with a root weld then weave a cap on top of it.
But I have read where some people recomend to weld from top to bottom when using a mig. I imagine it would be quite hard to see the weld pool if welding downwards.
Also would you run a root weld then weave a cap, or just run one pass.
I will be using a Clarke 190 to do this job.
Any help would gratefully be accepted.
Thanks Phil Watson
