Best £100 Sat nav.

Well my 7 year old Tom Tom has finally died! (Couldn't take the punishment anymore)
What's a good replacement ?
I like Tom Tom BUT the new mounting system is a PITA compared to the old style I've got and that's why I haven't bought a new one yet, mine has the 1" square bit on the suction mount that the unit slots down onto.
It has to be easily removable and be about £100 ish.
Recommendations please.....

Get yourself a basic data plan and a cheap smartphone or tablet with simcard and use Google Maps, its always up to date plus it shows live traffic build up. The data used is minimal.
It gives you a choice of routes and does turn by turn voice prompts. It will reroute automatically when a road is closed or there is an accident.

Nokia windows phones come with downloadable maps.

useless outside of towns & cities... once the data network drops so does the navigation

I live and work in rural locations and have never had a problem, Google will cache the required map data for your route while it has a signal.

Where I am Google maps are as much use as a useless thing.... making calls can be iffy

I use Mobile Atlas Creator (MOBAC) on my desktop to compile atlases from online maps. The atlas can be uploaded to my tablet for offline use. I'm using Locus Pro on my Android tablet, I'm not 100% sure if it will work as a SatNav.

I also have Route Converter and GPX Creator to manually define tracks, between them they can produce waypoints, tracks and routes which can also be uploaded to the device.

I want a bigger screen than the phone, plus I don't want to look like 'Johnny cabs' with my phone stuck right in the middle of my screen! I've already used Google maps and wayz but prefer a Sat nav, I've seen one of the newer Tom Tom's in halfords that I'm going to look at tomorrow it's got a 5" screen, blue tooth, lifetime maps and traffic, plus loads of other stuff. They've even redesigned the mount with something that look miles better than their last effort!

garmin nuvi 57 lm 5inch, £90 at argos was £149,
5 inch screen landscape, 6inch portrait, street view, lifetime update,junction and lane id,
text to speech, i`ve used garmin`s for years never had a problem with them

My two years old nuvi 1340 has just died. I paid for lifetime maps and now I either have to buy another or kiss goodbye to 99GBP they cost.

crb, you may know this already, but, sometimes there`s a reset button under a sticker, my first garmin from way back packed up and i thought what a load of rubbish these were, but i found this pin hole hiding under a sticker whilst i was messing with it, so pressed it and 7 yrs on that one is still working, i brought another garmin a while after, one with a bigger screen (4.3" touch), this one has never given any trouble, only thing i have to remember is to clear out the addresses i`ve been to as it saves all of them and slows it down a bit could be worth a look

The Nokia Here map system is one of the best out there. It can be downloaded onto android and ios operating systems aswell. Gives up to date traffic information etc and it has an easy to look at map on the screen.

I use it on my galaxy S6 along with a Brodit mount system in the discovery 3. The Disco 3 has in built sat nav but I find it pretty poor and awkward to use. Update discs for it are also expensive.

Keep an eye on Halfords, they do 'last seasons' Garmins at big discounts, I got a £170 one for £100 a few months ago... full Europe, live digital traffic, lifetime maps. I didn't need it but my old one would have cost £50 just to update the maps, plus I thought the live traffic would be useful (it is).
Nursy got one with Bluetooth, UK/Eire maps, touchscreen zoom, lifetime maps etc. for under £90 about a month back, she got £20 trade-in for her old one that was faulty.

that sucks, i`ve just tried another way with my 1310 which will clear all data except maps, (reset)that you could try,
press your thumb on the lower right edge of the screen, keep pressure on then turn the garmin on, you should get a yes/no box that says erase all data, may take e few seconds to get box, but yet worth another try, hope this dont dash your hopes as well

Been there, done that. I do not even get another screen. I did the updating rigmarole, but that got me nowhere and then tried to run the troubleshooting on their site...epic fail as the youths say. It is fubared, so says Garmin.
