supermoto vs enduro bikes?

right then. i have recently sold all my bikes and am starting to get withdrawal symptoms so im looking at a cheap toy.

not really interested in sportsbike as the riding position doesnt suit me and tourers arent really my idea of a toy so i have been looking at enduro's

now i have not long sold an xr650 but it had a supermoto kit on it and i never really rode it with enduro tyres.

not looking for anything that heavy, more like a drz450, ktm 350 or have even considered buying a 2 stroke 250 that has already been registered but i have no idea what riding on enduro tyres are like.

my only real experience of crossers is a race tuned cr80 on motox tyres and the xr had motox tyres on before the supermoto kit and i can remember both being really dreadful on the road.

anyone use enduro tyres on the road and are they good enough that you are confident that you can have some fun on and off road?

Buy a motard, you'll have a hell of a laugh riding it (provided you don't get an asbo ) Just don't buy a husky as the gearboxes are chocolate.

I have ridden a couple in the past and never really felt comfortable, cornering with any gusto did not feel safe.

Is there not an 'in between' tyre, I am out of the bike scene now so not up to date with what's available.

I have myself been browsing bikes, still get the urge to own an old Brit lump of iron but whoever said the bottom had dropped out of the market want's to look again, when I see what I owned and what they fetch now it fetches tears to my eyes.

i watch a few, theres him, premesis182 (i think), baron von grumble too but he just moans a lot while commuting (and he tried a real tricky green lane on a 750 gixxer that was quite entertaining), plus a few enduro channels too

My old Husky was one of the funnest bikes I have ever owned.

SM570R, ful race, kickstart only. Nearly took my leg off once. Fantastic machine. I used to run wets, it's such a light bike (110kg) you can get away with it. Enduro tyres are ok in the dry, get a supermoto and run it on street tyres.

I used to have a crf 450 motard and also a set of off-road wheels.
Most fun you can have with your cloths on. The bike was quite mad in road trim especially going to work on it in winter , lol

I used to enduro. XR400, then a Beta 450 and then a KTM250EXC-F. But most of the time was off the road so I had road legal enduro tyres. I used to run Mich AC10's, which were e-marked to keep plod happy. They were Ok'ish on the road in the dry but a bit hairy in the wet. off road they were great. A lot of my mates used to ride with Mitas, but I didn't really get on with them.

Don't expect serious mileage with an off road tyre if you are on the road a lot. the edges of the tread blocks wear really quickly meaning your off road grip gets compromised pretty soon when it gets wet.

been out of the sport for about 4years, so tyres may have moved on?? Look into the tyres that the big Trail bikes are using, this should give you a bit more idea what works and what does not......??

when you're off road keep an eye where you are riding. Local South Wales plod are very keen and love handing out Section 59's

I've had a husaberg fe501, mx bike converted to road. Was awesome fun once you got used to left hand kick, only drawback was on the road it was impossible to accelerate on two wheels, and off road it had that much power it would either dig a massive rut or fire you off into the undergrowth.

Had a 250f ktm, couldn't keep it in valve clearances, pretty much every ride you had the feeler gauges out.

Then got a ktm exc 250 2 stroke. Absolute giggle to ride, bags of power, rip your face off speed once it hit the power band, and Weighed about as much as a sandal so you could throw it around all over the shop. Only issue for me was road work between lanes, you knew it was going to seize, just not at what point, and anything over 50 for sustained periods is a bit of a no no. Knobblies are ok on the road, take some getting used to although I did run foam inners (mousses) which are equivalent to about 14 psi, so a bit shuffly on corners

Also ridden a wr426 and 450. Both supermotos and amazing bikes. My next bike is going to be either of them again unless i go all out and buy a ducati hypermotard

Mate also had a wr400 supermoto, was hellish fun when you could actually start the bloody thing! The 426 is supposed to be a nice machine, as is the ktm 525/530

Fj , I test rode a hyper motard from Ducati Manchester , an 1100s , awesome power and brakes, if you love crf' and wr's your gonna love the hyper. They do a few different models now 795 Evo etc,,,,

I found a site that is offering them for £99 a month with a grand down and £5000 final payment!!
