In 2011 the EU bureaucrats (for privacy reasons) decided that websites should ask consent from visitors before issuing cookies. You can find out about cookies on this site in the privacy policy. Unfortunately EU bureaucrats don't appear to understand what cookies are and certainly don't understand how to get rid of the ones that track you around the internet. Most people ignored the EU rules which was fine, though the rules are the reason why you sometimes have to click OK in a pop up about cookies before looking at a website - those ones are the law abiding websites.
It's all changing. Google have been getting some hassle from the EU (for tracking people around the internet) and are now requiring every website using their tools or advertising to stick up a pop up saying they use cookies by 30th September 2015.
Currently it is looking like we'll have to do that on here. When you click OK in the popup we'll send a cookie so we can remember never to show it ever again. But there doesn't appear to be any easy way to stop showing the popup to people who don't accept cookies (perhaps for privacy reasons), so every page you look at will have an annoying pop up, and the only way you will be able to get rid of them is by giving in and accepting cookies.
On here I know there are some people who block cookies so I'll try to make it as painless as the EU will allow. I think the forum announcements box will allow any member to efficiently dismiss a message. But a billion other sites are going to become very annoying before 30th September.
