We've been through this, just last week I spent 3 hours removing a diesel tank before my van was removed, got nearly a whole litre of fuel

ok beat this one....when my 13 amp fuses blow i put them in my lathe and put a pin drill through them and solder a new 13 amp wire in them,blob of solder each end and i have a new Yorkshire fuse..not joking either

No I don't think you were ripped off , some good looking cold chisels ,tin snips ,a lump hammer ,side cutters and you can never have too many spanners ,there good for making oneoff special tools ..jeff..

Yes except I split the fuse lengthways and solder it back together, have you seen the price of fuse wire?????

Btw, she didn't do badly on price with those, when you work out the singular costs of each item. With amount of Scot's, Yorkshiremen and other Northern'ers on here, asking if owt's a good price is usually a bad idea though.

Have a pot of water to hand. Lightly grind, dip. Lightly grind, dip. Lightly grind, dip...

If you see colors appear on the metal you've got it too hot and it will need to be hardened and tempered again.
Don't let it get hot enough that it could be painful to hold and you should be OK.

I have a bag full of the old carboard type holders and use something thats roughly the same thickness...i started modding fuses this way a few years ago when my plasma kept blowing 13 amps on full power so i re-filled them with thicker wire and no more blown fusesNot recomended i know but sometimes you have to dig deep to get by

I can't speak for them, but in my case I root through rubbish bins for burnt out fuses/wire and piece them together to fuse my circuits. For a 13a job, take 15a wire and shave it down a little 'til it's the right thickness.

it would be 16 amp wire, i know someone that just solders it across the blown fuse direct on to the holder as well . less loose conections the better

Yes. Degrease thoroughly then let them develop light surface rust. Then remove the rust by leaving over night in citric acid. Depending on how worn they are you may need to develop a heavier rust coat before the citric acid treatment.

You can use other acids but citric is easily bought as crystals on eBay, is cheap, and much safer than nitric of sulphuric or phosphoric - after all it's only lemon juice !
