So I've got a barrel full of a mix of waste oil/fuel/coolant/anything else I didn't want to put down the drain, I presumed that the local tip would accept this but after looking online it appears you can't get rid of a mix of all sorts, it has to be just engine oil or just fuel etc. Anyone got any suggestions as to how I can get rid of it?

Contact your local council, they should be able to advise you.
That's what I thought till i looked online and they were saying they won't accept any form of mix and considering how tight tips are getting about things now wasn't sure whether they'd be checking. Just sent an email to my local council but if they don't come back with anything useful I'll just try dumping it at the tip anyway

If it's one where you tip into a container rather than leaving your own (easy!) then unless you have somebody stood watching vividly as a large quantity of coolant that won't mix with oil comes out you should be fine. Or a very strong smell of petrol! In any event, by then it's already in...

Here in Stoke they take eng oils only and cooking oil only. Any other fluids I take in i.e. used white spirit etc they just tell me to chuck it in the landfill container! The engine and cooking oils have to be emptied into the main containers and the cartons put in the land fill container!
All the tips around here have a place for paint tins & other chemicals. I was doing a clear out of a relatives sheds and anything like white spirit, weed killer, etc went with the paint tins.
I've found that if they see that you made the effort to separate and sort your rubbish they will advise you where to put it and leave you alone. But if you arrive with a load of mixed rubbish they will stand and watch you in case you put the wrong thing in landfill.

you should be able to separate the water/coolant from it easily as it doesn't mix, then take it to tip as waste oil

Try your local garage, most garages are now selling there waste oil for 9p a litre! (they will be glad to take it)

A small car brake drum (Mini for example) will go through the door of a Clarke barrel stove (and no doubt others). If you've welded a sheet of steel in the bottom to cover the holes then it's just a heavy steel dish. Filled with waste oil an old tissue is (probably) enough of a wick to light it and it'll burn quite happily heating your garage (or wherever the stove is).

I have my rocket stove heating my garage but if I had waste oil to spare, I'd be making a waste oil heater myself.
