Our Pm managed on a trade promo trip to China this year to get permission to send chickens feet their way.

I always thought large marine engines were diesel, or maybe some sort of multi-fuel type engines like military tanks. So, now I`m thinking that ship fuel must be special grade stuff with the correct amount of oil added at point of production/refining. Surely there is no giant 2 stroke oil pump on board to add the mix.

We got prices last week to ship some welding wire to China (I know) and it was cheaper than sending it to Italy........I say italy because we got a quote from the same people

2 stroke diesels are common for running static plant like hydraulic pumps etc, I look after a few Detroit 2strokes running large triplex pumps for high pressure cement units.

When Rover opened the new Metro plant in 1980 the underframes were built by 2 German machines, the doors by Dutch machines and the bodies were welded on 2 French supplied lines using American robots!.

I can't complain, it gave me a job for 15 years as they sold over 2 million.
In my work duties I used to go to a Manchester container depot, at one corner of the yard was a company that used to pack containers with cars and another that used to pack containers with lathes, mills an any and all industrial machinery, saw some lovely stuff going out of this country. Just to big for my garage
The first ship I sailed on as a 16 year old was a 5000 tonne gas tanker with a 2 stroke engine. Being a tall skinny streak of P**s the job of cleaning out the scavenge ports always fell to me, this entailed waiting for the engine to cool sufficiently so I could remove the access cover and climb in armed with a scraper and bucket. I hope they have made some advancements on scavenge port design as the thought of cleaning them on a ship of that size is the stuff nightmares are made off.
