Take a pic tomorrow of the other side of the gear ie showing spindle.

If the gear isn't meshed with spindle fully it will smash it to pieces and I suspect this is where the problem is.

If the gear on the spindle is the wrong type this will just shread the gears on the gear thats bu**red

To check that, simply removing that stripped gear and testing the assembly out with that one gear alone would check that. Don't think that's the problem though. If those gears are tight on the tumbler, there's something wrong there. You should be able to freely spin those gears by hand and get several revolutions from one spin.

they shouldnt be a tight fit they should be a bit of play all round and run freely

Best thing to do, when you have chance, is to check that neither of the spindles for the composite gears are bent or off kilter. That's something which obviously wouldn't have been like it from factory new, so unless the previous owner stripped the original gears, (by running the saddle into the tailstock or similar under leadscrew power), and something is amiss with the later production replacement gears on their sizes, then the only other realistic option is that the assembly is deformed somehow.

Myford themselves supplied the new gears, checking pics on google! I can't seem to find one that has the larger gear covering the 2 tumblers once the assy is fitted to the machine

I'd have thought it wasn't the gears? ie its done the same thing as the previous gear set that came on it.

That seems the most obvious if there's no tumbler unit damage. That'd be lax quality control for two sets at different times to slip through though, and the only other common component is the tumbler assembly itself.

I have had a number of things thus week from Myford incorrectly manufactured. T slot bolts that did not fit the slots, cross slide screw and nut that were tight etc. For starters.

So it would not surprise me if they were out of tolerance.

Ok thats the answer I was after...so its possibly bad gears.

I've had it about two weeks, everything else runs fine, not been able to try the leadscrew for obvious reasons

Sadly Myford went bust a few years ago, the name was bought by a company notorious for selling poor quality fake Myford gear on eBay......

Is it definatly Super7 and not the super7 plus? the super seven7 plus had a bore for accepting 1" stock so there might be a difference in spindle gear size.
