Handy vice

Has anyone seen one of these before the guy I do work for has this vice , it is a great bit of kit and I want one!!

Last time I saw one of those was on ebay years ago and it made a lot of money, not 100% sure but think it was around the £80 mark, it was in just about unused condition though, my £20 bid did not last long

The swivel base clamp looks basic, may slip under leverage ........... otherwise ........ I WANT ONE

I've often looked at them thinking what a good idea bet been put off by be the locking mechanisms, things moving when you don't want them too. But I've never had the chance to use one to find out.

I've got an old fashioned version. Much heavier built and without the swivelling base. Must be old it had Whitworth fasteners. It's a damn good vice.

Ive been looking for a more solid version since I came across this about a year ago.the clarke one cant hold anything of a half decent size if you look at the specs

Try ex MOD sales such as http://www.mod-sales.com/ A very similar vice is fitted to some military vehicles such as CVRT Samson etc. many of which have been sold off (end of life) and hence vice may be available. A decent vise that will take a lot of abuse.

Is close to you ( I think ) and still looks a bargain. Vice doesn't close fully but maybe an easy repair. Ends 8pm today

That looks identical but in blue, he has had the one in the picture for years and seems to be a cracking ( not literally) bit of kit, I agree regards the locking bit, though for general holding for welding work, but maybe not trying to rip it off the bench with scaffold poles, it seems fine, and robust.

Not sure whether to thank you or curse you. I've got to explain to the wife why we'll be taking a slight detour now.

Cheers. I'm the new owner of a vice which is either sortable or will be getting thicker jaws to compensate. I'll update as to how it goes. Felt compelled to bid on another couple of bits he had listed which I didn't really need but which looked handy too.

Jaws closing. That vice is more like the one I have than the other. They dismantle easily. Someone's probably put the block in the bottom the wrong way round or summat.
