Like the d shackle idea will remember that one
These tunnel are part of the Kings Cross/St Pancras International/London Underground Stations Interchange for passengers. The 45 deg tunnel slope is now an 200 foot escalator.
Now London's Cross Rail is another machine damage test area.
Having worked on both projects - in the tunnels too - I can say that things have changed a hell of a lot in a few short years.
The main thing is that Crossrail have employed inspectors to oversee works - guys for the main part are very experienced and not the kind you can pull the wool over their eyes - and they pay them a LOT of money to make sure things are done right. None of them want to lose their job at such a good rate so they don't 'let things slide'.
I was working on the Canary Wharf box about 6 mths ago myself, for Expanded. Were you there for Dragados I guess? They had a few machines on the bottom level. Kept leaving them running and fuming me out.
Probably, up to the end of 2012 I worked for Nationwide Platforms, I now work for another access compamy.
I first worked at Canary Box when you could drive a vehicle down to possibly level -4/-5 (you'd have to check that) I know it became a very very long walk down/up the stairs when I was given an incorrect fault/problem with a machine at -6.
Expanded would take us in then leave us to get on with it, but towards the end it became a real pain, probably because Cross Rail started taking an hands on interest....![]()
Thankfully there is no HSE involvement in this it is privateou need to read pm28 from the Hse before you start using man baskets on teletrucks. One of my jobs today is to put a disk cutter through ours to prevent it being used
How will you get into the basket once it is elevated?
I was there at that time too -
