Chainsaw Trousers

Stihl highflex are fairly cool running,there are others from other brands.

You realy must wear chainsaw trousers,boots too,& a helmet with eye/ear protection.

Chainsaws dont take prisoners,they take chunks,in a split second.

I would recomend basic training,or at least hiring a trained & experienced arborist to get you up to speed,nothing compares to experience & ppe,this from an experienced climber/ cutter.

Your local woodland trust often have barrow loads of funding for "training or retraining" just tick the seeking work in sector box. That's how I did my cs30/31 for £300 all in lantra approved

To be fair he should have been climbing the tree(s) using spikes and a harness... Or alternatively working from a small secured platform...

only use spikes when dismantling or when there is no other option, first line of defence in the canopy is a good top anchor and work positioning harness... well apart from actually knowing what you are doing

That is a good way of getting some tuition,there are a few chainsaw dealers that offer a 'home user' type of training too,at a cost,I wont post a link,but if the op is interested he can pm me,(not trying to advertise any one dealer).
Bear in mind when looking for chainsaw trousers,you have all round protection & just frontal, type 'a' will give frontal protection,type 'c' is all round the leg,then you get into chainspeed, but at the end of the day,if you dab yourself with the saw at full chat,you will most likely get hurt,on the run down they will let you go get a cup of tea.
Most bad accidents with chainsaws happen with people that just dont understand how to use them in a safe way,look up tension & compression in the timber,& learn the dangerous sections of the chainsaw bar,(tip mainly),but not exclusively.
I have seen some seasoned pro lads get cut,& much as a chainsaw is a modern fast way of cutting up wood,it is a very easy way of getting hurt bad when you least expect it.
