Chainsaw Trousers

After a pair of PPE trousers, I had a pair that were stolen, but I tended not to use them as they were so hot.

Any recommendations

Iv only ever used stilh trousers and had once or two saw bites and they saved my legs apart from the brown stain in my pants!!

Theres a second hand Stihl pair in Leeds yorkshire on ebay for £15, thats about the cheapest. Stihl seem to be the must have make. Up to £170 for a state of the art Cool flex pair.

I started with a pair of husky chaps that were lovely to use but as I've got short leg (27.5inch) the zip come undone if your walking around a lot if your normal size would be fine. There defiantly cooler to work in as you get lots of ventilation. My new pair is a set of stihl classics

sip are pretty good ( yes this may be the one) too

for on the ground use you only need type a (front protection), not type c (all round pro)

don't forget boots too

I just use old jeans coz it doesn't matter if they get cut up, or if they get blood on em!

I work with a lad that is lucky to be alive, the saw hit a branch and kicked back, knocking him over, with the blade landing on the inside of his leg. Put a hole in his leg you still can hide a mars bar in. It missed his main artery by milimeters.

Yet he still works carelessly, I guess some people never learn

I bought a pair of Stihl ones when I did my training about 4 years ago...
A guy turned up in jeans and said he'd be fine, he was retraining with us...

The instructor politely reminded him you've got 4 minutes from the instant you cut your leg if you hit the artery!
Fine if your next to a hospital, if the ambulance takes 4 minutes to get to you your already dead!

The average response time these days in a suburban area is about 4 to 5 minutes if the area is relatively built up and an ambulance station is nearby. Anywhere else is between 5 and 10 minutes response time...
If your out in the sticks it can be longer and even if a helicopter comes out it can still take 5 to 10 minutes after landing to find you!

I read a few years ago about a man and wife pruning their orchard trees he was up the ladder and she was footing the ladder he slipped as the branch cut though, and he came down at full stretch with the saw on full chat and cut her head clean off !!
apparently he had to have references from friends and family to prove it was not premeditated.

Don't forget folks, the regs say if used for work purposes gloves, trousers, boots all have to be saw rated, and a helmet with eye and ear protection is required, although if your just in your back garden the rules do not apply.... who makes this stuff up?!

I think my ppe for my cs30 course cost twice what the course cost, but im only 24, id like to keep my legs etc!

Well said that man. Protection gear usually only gets tested once. ie: when the accident happens. So make sure you get a pair from an outlet that knows what its talking about.

To be fair he should have been climbing the tree(s) using spikes and a harness... Or alternatively working from a small secured platform...

A real shame, but unfortunately accidents like this happen, to those who deserve it least or least expect it

Stihl highflex are fairly cool running,there are others from other brands.

You realy must wear chainsaw trousers,boots too,& a helmet with eye/ear protection.

Chainsaws dont take prisoners,they take chunks,in a split second.

I would recomend basic training,or at least hiring a trained & experienced arborist to get you up to speed,nothing compares to experience & ppe,this from an experienced climber/ cutter.
