Hi all
I recently brought a 1975 2002 tii Lux for restoration. When inquiring about the car the guy said he had done 95% of the welding, which made me think I could spend a few days finishing up before starting prepping for paint!
When I went to collect the car (380 miles away from where I live!) I realised his welding skills were basic and worse than mine which aren't much as I have only used Stick and tried Mig a couple of times. At the very least I'm going to go through a bunch of grinding discs, a lot of the welds look like the little mounds earth worms leave on mud.
I was going to get a local welder to do the 5%!! but since I have ordered a Portamig 211 after see the car.
Please can you guys give me some advice on how bad it is, my main concern is strength, I'm hoping I can tidy some of it up and redo the rest?
Areas to look at:
He has done the wheel arches, but I don't have any images. I will take more photos tomorrow and post, including some close ups.
Thanks in advance.
Ben

Areas to look at:
- Inner sill, long patch running almost the entire length.
- Inner wing, 4 pieces tacked together?
- Foot well, slab of galvanised plate.
- Boot, more cosmetic,very lumpy.
