Cutting threaded bar

That machine would make perfect sense if your main business was chiopping allthread, or if you had a mate who'd got one you could let you use it through a weekend. Otherwise what I'd guess to be 20 to 30 grand's worth of gear isn't on the cards.

4.500 seems like an intermediate amount. Too little for buying serious gear and too much for bodging if the nuts have to go on easily. It would be worth checking the suppliers to see if they could just do it.

Otherwise, I'd say that the way was to put the nuts on to less than 160 mm and then force them off with spanners when they were cut. It's an awful lot of mucking about though.

The 200 quid bit of kit will do the job, and that is what i was struggling to find.

The fastener supplier here uses an abrasive chop saw to cut studding and just tapers the end thread on a linisher. If you welded a bolt to the plate by it's head would it not work ?

Have you looked into buying the finished screwed rods already done to the correct length.My local ICI chemical works virtually went over to screw rods B7 grade in stead of nuts and bolts, bought in finished lengths that increased by only 1/4" at a time

Inclined to think this way too. Multiple cuts with bundled rod and then a quick spin on the linisher. If you are not looking at repeat jobs, then the time verses cost looks better.

Theres a few about Paul, work like the cordless rebar cutters, but the blades are shapped.

If i have a large number to cut, i get someone else to do it
Or, Cut them double the length, then shear in half on the geka.

Be alright on your little bandsaw, coarse blade, 2 at a time, days and a halfs work, job done.
