It ain't rocket science, if it's a cylinder you have legitimately, the encouragement to take it back when it's empty is you will still be charged rental for an empty bottle if you don't.

I've had a few cylinders that belonged to AP, BOC that found their way into our possession.

I've rung them up and asked them to collect; they have been round within a few days to pick them up and take them away.

I don't see its any great imposition to pick the phone up, ring the free phone number and get them to collect. I know i'd much rather do that than dump it in a skip or leave it lying around, empty or not. We had 2 acetylene cylinders a few months back; BOC were round the same day to pick up.

I struggle to understand why you have an axe to grind with gas suppliers?

because people are just not aware of this fact myself included most are as ive said just slung into a skip for disposal or infact dumped

im not a welder only just started as ive been on here part of the reason why ive asked for a collection number that i have been given for removal of keg barrels as well as
pub bottles from a sold pub which the brewery has been requested to remove all the stuff and has not yet done so we are now talking 2 months now

No - it's stealing by finding. It should be handed in to the police who will let you keep it unless the owner comes forward within a specified time.

Doesn't make any difference, the cylinders are not theirs to sell, it's the same as me selling your telly

I would expect in a gas contract there is a bit about disposing of in an appropriate manner- returning to the supplier.
Throwing gas cylinders into skips isn't a suitable way of disposing of them, regardless of it being yours, or someone elses.

Gaz, someone steals your telly, you think "oh, I loved that telly but they don't make them anymore, I know, I'll look for a second-hand one".
You spot one for sale and it just so happens to be the one you once owned but the person who's selling it bought it innocently, not knowing it was stolen.....

If you were complaining about people selling you a gas bottle that wasn't theirs and can't be refilled then I could see your point.

But if you really think that finding something makes it yours then that tells me as much as I want to know about you.

What if you lose your gas bottle and pay the lost fee (which I assume is the cost of the bottle), who then owns the bottle should it later be found.
If your car gets stolen & insurance pays out, the insurance company own the car!!!

go to the police and get them to go with u and get it back as stolen recovered. provided u can prove its yours . the inocent seller looses out .

My point exactly!!
If a cylinder is marked 'property of acme gas co.' then if you innocently buy that cylinder from someone, unfortunately you stand to lose out as it's theirs, not yours, regardless if any lost cylinder fee has ever been paid on it.

Good opportunity to wind this thread up, all the info anyone needs is now here and I can see it keeping going round in circles.
