Would it be possible to build up the damaged area with a hard facing rod and then re-grind it I wonder?
If anyone's interested there's a Progress 2G on the 'bay at the moment.

I've not got it (the gear) back yet, they're charging me £20 to fill and hard-face the damaged bits. Then I've got to grind it back to size.
They're certainly solid, the bench mounted version weighs 115 Kilos.
