Evening All!
I need to find a bolt to fit a tapped hole, and I am having trouble finding an easy to understand bolt size chart.
The hole measures 22mm dia (between the threads) and it looks to be a fairly coarse thread. The only thread gauges I have that come anywhere near the pitch are an old Whitworth set, and the best fit is 8 - I guess thats 8 tpi?
Any clues as to the size of the bolt I need? Can anyone point me to a thread chart website please?
There is going to be very little stress on this fixture, so if it's not exactly right it's not a big deal - as long as I can loosely screw it in a few turns and it won't fall off that would be OK!
It's for a solid steel cone about 6" dia base tapering to more or less nothing, and about 12" or so high. I want to weld a tapered square bar to the bolt so it will fit in the hardy hole on the anvil to true up roundish forged rings. It could probably just sit there on the anvil without any fittings, but if it fell off it's heavy enough to hurt. A lot!
I want to use the bolt & bar scenario rather than a bar welded straight to the cone, as sometimes it's handy to just sit it straight on the bench.
Any suggestions?
