Mine is the same. I go though 2-3 batts a year.

The On/off buttons only turn off the display. You can turn it off, move it and turn it back on and it still shows the correct measurement. So teh electronics are always on.

Other than batt life, it has proven accurate with same readings as my micrometer.

I have one similar to the aldi one, i guess they are all made by the same chinese company, and then branded by the seller. Great value and pretty decent.

I got one out of Lidl about four years ago. It's dated 2007. It looks exactly the same as the Aldi one and the same as ones sold by Maplin and others for a lot more. I go for the one Chinese factory theory.

It agrees with a set of feeler gauges pretty well exactly. It's on the same battery it came with. It was a good buy for about the same price as this. I'm surprised how much it gets used.

I've heard that it helps if you clean the battery with a bit of bog roll before putting it in, otherwise it self discharges through the fingerprints and dirt. It's no trouble to do.

Maybe they are like a lot of cheap things and are a bit variable. You can drop on one which is light on batteries or one which eats them.

Mine loses the measurement when it's turned off and turns itself off after a few minutes.

I've got an idea that a lot of stuff with LCDs such as autodark helmets, is best kept out of the frost, if you can.

Dont use my Mitutoyo very often, couple of times a week on average, must only be on the second or third battery in 10 years.

About the same as my Mitutoyo, at least 20 years old, probably 4 or 5 batteries in that time, I never remember to switch it off either.

They look like the same old 1.5V LR44 battery types. Only the display turns off.

Get spare batteries here instead of paying 3 or 4 quid, buy 4 or more for 75p each:

I have 3 sets of 150mm calipers, all cheapies,trojan,senator and an aldi set ,the aldi set has the largest display,if I was still on the handles milling and turning i would invest in coolant proof mitutoyo ...The batteries can be bought very cheap wouldn't even consider battery life personally
I bought an assorted card of cells from the local market had 6off lr44 and many more for £1

Got some of the dickies thermal socks - very impressed my little piggies have been kept cosy and warm all day despite the wet boots caused by melting snow.

Also got some of the pry bars, although I wasn't sure what I was going to use them for and they have already been called into successful service.
